“Even local residents who have been here for many years will learn something about our city,” Gribble said.

Destination Stratford is working on several collaborations for future tours, including a partnership with the Stratford Festival to honour Tom Patterson, and a Justin Bieber-inspired tour sparked by the success of the Stratford Perth Museum’s long-running exhibit.

With indoor gatherings limited if not prohibited during the pandemic, Gribble said the focus has shifted to outdoor tourism. A number of initiatives were rolled out in 2020, so the audio tours are an extension of their efforts.

“People are really embracing experiences,” he said. “By adding this experiential layer and having it be self-guided, the feedback has been tremendous.

“As we add more trails we will expand throughout the region.”

The tours are free, and anyone taking part only needs a smartphone or tablet to connect to free city wifi. Tours can also be experienced from home for those unable or uncomfortable making the trip to Stratford.

“Hopefully we’ll have planted a seed so when they come here (next), they can do it again in person and see these unique spots,” Gribble said. “We won’t stop until we run out of stories.”
